Overview

Mudrid's most defining features are its typing, high special attack, and access to Crystal Deluge. The ability to hit most enemies for decent damage and sleep threats with a priority move can be potent. However, Mudrid is frail, and its ability to sleep enemies relies on having at least two mental allies. This means Mudrid users have to know its limits as a wrong choice can lead to it dying very quickly. It also can cause interesting teambuilding dilemmas at times, though it is often a pretty nasty threat on the teams that it fits best on. Mudrid wants to survive, find opportunities to control the game where needed, and hit hard.

Description

(1.3 DUKE'S NOTES - DID YOU KNOW BUNBUN IS SUPPOSED TO BE PRONOUNCED "BOON-BUN"? ISN'T THAT WILD? THIS THING DIDN'T REALLY CHANGE)

Mudrid is a fast, aggressive attacker with a unique type that gives it poor defenses, slotting in normally into fast-paced lineups. Its previously signature ability, Crystal Deluge, leverages its high speed to disable targets and protect itself and its allies. Mudrid got a lot sadder when Bait was added to the game, but it's still a worthwhile partner for mentals and other tems that appreciate Soil Steam and Crystal Dust/Deluge.

This is a very glass cannon set for Mudrid, and relies on swapping in and out and utilizing Fake Beard to preserve Stamina. It is possible, if you have it open, to run Sweatband and rely on the Resistant trait to stop the Exhasuted status from crippling your stamina, though you will want to add stamina investment in that case. Resistant is still usually the preferred trait on Mudrid, helping it against toxic ticks, burns, exhausted (though it will strip beard) and other statuses that tend to only be applied in a single tick. If you are running Kaleidoscope on tems like Amphatyr or Saku, Receptive can increase the duration of evasion, alerted, regeneration, etc.

Mudrid's partners are strong mentals, tems like Kinu, who can help its bulk, Myx, who it can give Quartz Dirt Synergy to and protect from Fires, and Barnshe, who it can protect from Electrics and Crystals as well.

Description

Mudrid has an excellent toolkit to fit into a fast and highly aggressive playstyle with its access to strong moves, high speed, and the option to shut down any potential threats with Crystal Deluge synergy. Despite being incredibly fragile, when played right Mudrid can have control over the board for several turns.

Soil Steam allows for huge damage right out the gate and every following turn. Crystal Dust is our consistent Crystal damage, and despite being somewhat low power, can be highly impactful thanks to its base 3 priority. With synergy, it gains 4 priority and higher damage. Crystal Deluge is Mudrid's most powerful tool, allowing Mudrid to put an opponent to sleep for 3 turns at high priority if paired with a Mental-type ally. The Isolated status it applies even without synergy can also be useful in shutting down certain plays. Dust Vortex allows for a slightly larger burst of damage than Soil Steam, but could also be replaced with Quartz Dirt for a spread move option.

Resistant is a very strong trait that helps Mudrid in many situations. It completely eliminates the burn from Tulcan's Heater and Fiery Soul, and it denies the exhaust from Mom's Lunch and Plague. Denying Plague's exaust further avoids Handcuffs' Trapped status. It also reduces the number of toxic ticks taken, allows swapping out the turn after a Cage, and reduces the impact of opposing sleep moves. Although Receptive has niche value in allowing an extra turn of Fake Beard, it is usually not worth the downsides.

Mudrid will almost always want to be on a team with 2 Mental-type Tems to allow for more consistent Deluge synergy, as well as to threaten the Melee tems Mudrid is incredibly weak to. Myx and Barnshe are the 2 Mental types most suited to being put in a highly offensive team alongside Mudrid, however other options can be made to work.

Mudrid's base stamina, when combined with Fake Beard, is enough to use a rotation of 2x Soil Steams and Crystal Deluge. If Fake Beard is taken elsewhere on your team, Mudrid's base stamina is enough for one Soil Steam into Crystal Deluge, although more investment may be wanted. This spread is maxed out in speed, allowing for Mudrid to successfully Deluge as many targets as possible, as well as at worst speed-tie with other Mudrids to hit them with Soil Steam. Special attack is also maxed for Mudrid to land as many K.O.s as possible, vitally important on such a fragile tem. Leftover points are put into HP.
